We have a reader, a true reader!!! After a few frustrating months over the summer and early fall, we got over our reading slump and Elijah has finished reading his first long chapter book!!! A friend had recommended
The Boxcar Children easy readers and it is to their credit that Eli quickly started enjoying reading again and reviewed basic skills. The boys have always been fans of
The Boxcar Children series. While reading one book to them a month ago, I had Eli read the first page or so of each chapter. When I saw that he could easily read those pages, I suggested that he get one to read on his own. Much to his enjoyment and my relief, it became easy to sit for quiet reading time. Elijah is in the middle of his second
Boxcar Children book. At this point, if he only wants to read this series for a while, I will happily agree.
The Boxcar Children: The Mystery of the Lake Monster
What a sense of accomplishment for him and for me. I've said from the beginning of our homeschool journey that I feel so privileged to witness these great milestones in my children's lives...first smile, first step, first stick drawing, first two wheel bike ride, first phonetic reading, first chapter book. Amazing! I am so thankful that I am the one to celebrate with him - one of the two people that loves and cares most about him in this world, sees his potential and wants the best for him.
