Sam Patch

Elijah, Luke, and I were transported back to 1827, one year after the Erie Canal opened for commerce and learned many details about the building and operating of the canal. We had two guides, Mr. Amos Eaton, a professor who traveled the length of the Erie Canal with his field journal collecting, observing, and recording the things he sees - wild life, plant life, geology, etc. Mrs. Multoon, was the boat's cook and talked about the things we were to eat for our meals on the 15 day journey from the beginning of our 360 mile trip in Albany to the end point in Buffalo as well as other facts from that time period.

Lock 32 Pittsford, NY...waiting for the water to lower the boat down 25 ft. to open the lock and let us through

we sang a little ditty

When the lock was full, we could see over the edge of this wall. You can see the dark water line showing how high the water rose
