{Project 365} Day 34: Cat's Man Cave

Bree and Hwin

Our family has grown by eight paws...

 

Introducing Bree (in front) and Hwin (hugging her sister from behind).  These pretty kitties are seven months old, very social and playful with each other and our family, and we are in love with them!  We named them after two of our favorite Narnian characters from The Horse and His Boy.

 

They are often found napping this way... 



Hwin - loves the laser pointer, the dominant sister when it comes to food, easy to hold and pet 

 Bree - a little more shy, but oh, so very curious, the talkative sister, loves to scratch, loves sleeping in this spot with her paws on the basket

 



 

We've had the kitties with us for under a week, but goodness, they bring a smile to my face especially when I see my boys interacting with them.  Surprisingly, Elijah has been the most confident and comfortable with our cats.  Not surprisingly, Sadie is taking a very cautious approach to them so much so that she is only just getting comfortable walking around the house without holding some one's hand.  The day we brought them home, she stayed in the same chair for hours and wanted to be carried everywhere.  I refused to let anyone carry her but suggested that some one could hold her hand.  I'm confident she'll warm up before too long.  She does like them...from a distance.

 

The only downer is that we are trying to determine if Isaac is allergic to the kitties or if he coincidentally developed a cold the same day we brought them home.  We're praying that it's simply a cold.  But if it turns out to be allergies, we're hopeful to find a way to make it work out!

 

And so, with a little December holiday humor thrown in for good measure,

Monarch Butterfly

We've had a bit of a rocky start to our school year...not finding a good routine yet. I feel somewhat scatterbrained. The following posts are reminders to me that in the midst of the chaos, learning new curriculum, managing a sweet and curious baby girl, adding some very hands-on preschool activities, re-learning how to be diligent students and a disciplined mama all the while longing to be outdoors where we spent the entire summer, there have been some really great things happening, too. I find it easy to focus on the negative and I do want to be real, but I also need to encourage myself right now with positive things!

Our neighbor, a teacher in our local school district (and a supporter of homeschooling!), gave us a caterpillar larvae on our first day of school in the container with the milkweed. How thoughtful! Everyday for the past two weeks we've watched it transform into a butterfly. What a marvelous design by our Creator God. I was simply in awe. Sometimes I feel like I am learning and seeing these things for the first time. AMAZING! The Monarch emerged from its chrysalis on Saturday and while we were quite excited to finally see the butterfly, it was sad to let her go.

Not sure how long he stood there and watched the butterfly hanging out in the tree...a LONG time. He has a hard time saying good-bye. Kind of like his mom.

We drew Monarchs for our science notebooks and as thank you notes for our kind neighbor.

Tecan the Snail

Our family is proud to introduce Tecan, the wonder snail, the newest addition to our family. If you read in a previous post about Chenunda Crik, you would find that our boys were fascinated with the snails in the crik and disappointed that we don't seem to have any around here in the 'burbs. Elijah and Luke were telling this story to Mr. Mayne, our contractor, and the next day he showed up with a canning jar complete with snail, lettuce, milk cap pond and stick. This snail was a gift from one of his daughters to our boys. He told us Tecan had been a great pet and was very sociable. We kept Tecan's name, but usually shorten it to "T."

He made it to the top and slid around the edge until it was time to pick up the toys and go inside. Pet in a jar. Now that's my kind of pet.
